Book to Movie Adaptations that Got it Right

myke-simon-atsUqIm3wxo-unsplashBook to movie adaptations are, in general, the scourge of readers and fans everywhere. (And don’t even mention video game to movie adaptations!) You picture something specific in your head as you read and you get attached to those images. The writer’s storyline is wonderful and then the screenplay gets changed – usually for the worse. But there are a few precious films that somehow get it right. Here is a list of my favorites.

1) Inkheart (2008)
Most people are going to vehemently disagree with me here, but I absolutely loved the movie adaptation of Inkheart. I loved the way the characters were portrayed, and I especially loved the way the words appeared on the skin of the characters that were read into existence.

2) Stardust (2007)
I absolutely love this movie; it’s probably one of my favorites. I have yet to make it through the whole book though (insert embarrassed emoji). But my husband has and he thinks the movie is much better. I mean, could Robert De Niro be any more amazing as Captain Shakespeare?

3) The Princess Bride (1987)
I love the Princess Bride. I have watched the movie countless times and read the book at least 3 times through. And while I do think the book is better than the movie, the movie still stands the test of time. Who can’t quote Inigo Montoya or picture Andre the Giant as Fezzik; and everyone remembers the famous swordfight!

4) The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Again, there are many people who would disagree with me here (I might even live with one of them). But the movie version has all of the useless and boring parts cut, and moves the story along much faster -everything the book was missing for me.

5) The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe (2005)
This movie was long-anticipated and it did not disappoint. It kept to the storyline from the book almost exactly, which I loved. This was the first fantasy book I remember reading, and it was awesome to see it come to life on screen.

Are there any movies you would add to the list? Let me know in the comments.
